Rates him pretty highly?

Rating him slightly more highly than Strachan did? That's not high praise. Strachan basically said he wasn't good enough for that level.

Mcleish has basically said he's about 7th choice and will play a few minutes in a couple of friendlies when he's at the bottom of the barrel.

That's not shite, that's how it is. If he rated him highly he'd play him in a competitive match. He won't.

Okay, let me try another tact. Why has he played 3 times in 5 games if his face doesn't fit? Why has he even been called up?

McLeish can rate him and want him as part of the squad without thinking he's first choice.

If that's difficult to grasp you should probably stop calling other people stupid.

Robertson isn't a left winger, just cos he is good going forward in a Liverpool team that plays with a player wide on his side and he does great work playing off that doesn't mean he should be played further forward.

Obvious solution, is to sit glass jaw on the bench

Yeah I know what you’re saying that Robertson isn’t a left winger. But if they’re going to keep trying ways to fit them both in they could try that solution next. Tierney at right back and centre back wasn’t working, so try both on left flank to see if that works.

If you're Manchester City it's a lot easier as you can buy 2 excellent players for each position. If you're Scotland then it's a different story.

Even then Manchester City might shuffle the formation around to get as many of their best players in the team as they can.

Playing Ryan Fraser at right wing back might get him on the pitch, but it negates his effectiveness as he never plays there for Bournemouth. Playing Tierney LCH might get him on the pitch, but it negates his effectiveness as he never plays there for Celtic.

You're weakening the team by making our better players not play in their best position.

so we just keep changing systems, positions, other personnel in order to accommodate glass jaw  hoping we eventually find one that works

that's madness

stick him on the bench end of

But they’re prob our two best players (arguably). I absolutely get what you’re saying, but still think we should try fit them together.

Yep.

Or at the very least we allow the losers to run the show (SFA) pick a loser manager (McLeish) and generally fuck about enjoying their blazeratti perks instead of dealing with the all important things.

Scottish football is fucked because its so focused around the glasgow football goldfish bowl that the people running it don't even seem to realise how utterly out of touch with reality they are.

Fucking dinosaurs run every strata of the sport tbh,

Absolutely Spot on.

And it will only get worse until serious changes are made at the top of Scottish Football.

Christ how does a nation like ours stop producing World Class players like we used to,the top English clubs of yesteryear were riddled with our players, how many now?

Robertson at Scousers...Its fucking sad.

It was horrible and 4-0 flattered Scotland. Was it only me that thought Robertson looked hopeless?

Agree with most of the comments above about not playing players in their best positions.

Have to add loved jack giving away a goal and generally being rubbish. Actually surprised myself with how much I hate him.

Incorrect. The manager has failed to choose the best system to get the best out of the players.

Scottish fitba has been a mess for a number of reasons. Clearly focus on Glasgow is a big problem. SFA and SPFL system doesn’t work. One body is needed for a country our size.

Main problems stem from same mistakes made over a number of years. These being poor coaching and facilities at youth level. In fact there seems to be improvement with the primary age football but as soon as it moves into youth the hard man chase it tactic kicks back in and ruins all the good work done. No emphasis on encouraging players to stick at it. All too easy to give up but a lot of that comes from shit facilities, crap pitches, playing through winter and just generally not enjoyable.

Bottom line is we’ll keep falling behind as other countries adapt modifying how they develop talent. I hope project brave works but I fear it won’t due to several clubs not subscribing to it for whatever reasons.

I think Mcleish is right trying to use younger players to build a squad with some experience dotted around apart from Mulgrew. He should not be anywhere near the team. Overall pool of players to choose from is pretty sparse. It also doesn’t help when key players start pulling out with injury and lo and behold are fine again a week later playing for their club!

Point is mess from top to bottom.

Given shinnie is a left back playing in midfield, where would you rank him amongst Scottish midfielders?

I think he's seen as a useful squad player. Versatile, good attitude and loyal to the cause. He turned up this summer in the middle of his wedding plans, had to change his plans for his stag do. Managers admire and remember that kind of loyalty

Given that's just your opinion, why do you think it's relevant?

Shinnie is a CM. That's just a fact. If he signs a new deal, he'll still be a CM. If he moves on he will be leaving to play as a CM for another club. It would do some folk good to just accept this fact.

Seriously, in the systems that Alky Mcleish has been using, I rank him good enough to go straight into midfield. Certainly ahead of Mcginn, Mcdonald and Jack. How about you? Or do you just compare him to Tierney and Robertson?

Yes. As he's a left back playing as a midfielder
