The Last Jedi

I think had this been what we got instead of The Force Awakens I'd like it more, but it really doesn't do much to move the plot on and it doesn't answer a lot of the questions we had from the last film.

I can see them now having to do a 10-20 year time lapse between this one and episode 9 as well. Think they may have written themselves into a corner here.

I liked most of the individual parts of the film, but the overall package is a let down.

It's a 6.5/10 from BWG esq.

Geeks

As someone who’s never seen any of the Star Wars films and who never will, I suspect that you’re right that it would appeal mainly to geek types, and mutant arseholes.

I disagree.

It's answered a lot of questions.

There is one that hasn't been, but on the whole it has moved the story on.

Agree there will be a time gap between VIII & IX, but it'll be 2-3 years not the 10-20 you think.

It's not shit, no.

It's just a different type of StarcWars film. A lot to do with the direction style.

There's one scene on a Casino Planet that totally takes you out of the film. Too much CGI.

Some characters are underused as well.

It's a 7.5/10 from me.

This could change upon second viewing.

I thought the casino, with the odd characters and music was classic Wars taking you back to the famous pub scene.

Maybe just not the ones I wanted then.

Spoilers in white below:

Who the fuck was Snoke and how did he seemingly single-handedly re-organize the Empire into the First Order?

Why is Rey so damn powerful?

What the fuck are the Knights of Ren?

Why haven't they built deflector shields that can withstand a ship coming at them at FTL? I mean why didn't they just do that with the first two Death Stars?

I didn't hate the thing and I'll watch it again but it wasn't what I thought it would be and it didn't blow me away.

I told you that Snoke was a false alarm the other day.

Snoke? Fuck know's. I guess it'll be covered in the novels or comics (if you're a reader), or potentially in Rian Johnson's forthcoming trilogy. I think he's from the Outer Rim Territory's or the Unknown regions. The Empire reformed in the Unknown regions after the battle of Jakku and commenced Project Resurrection (Palpatine's last order) and subsequently became the First Order. Where Snoke fits into all this I've no idea.

I'm a self confessed Star Wars nerd and read the novels so that's where I've picked this high level info from that I've given you.

If you've an XBox ( I don't) there is some back story in the campaign mode in that too about some Star Wars First Order stuff and an item you see in Luke's possession.

Why is Rey so powerful? She just is. The same way that someone a hundred years down the line in the Star Wars universe was so powerful or a hundred years in the past was so powerful. Luke or Anakin Skywalker powerful? No.

Kinghts of Ren? Again if you read the 'Aftermath' Trilogy (not the best of books, but got better as the trilogy progressed) set after the Return of the Jedi and leading up to the Battle of Jakku. There are a group of people called the 'Acolytes of the Sith' that are collecting Sith artifacts. Speculation is that they evolved into the Knights of Ren. But that's about as much is known about them. Again speculation and will probably be covered in novels or books.

Shields? I'm not a Physicist. But I'd imagine that a vessel the size of the Raddus (named after the Admiral from Rogue One) flying at FTL impacting on another large mass is going to cause some amount of damage.

Fucking hell I'm such a nerd

I should say that It's poor in my opinion that you need to read other material to have an understanding on what is happening in some cases.

The films should fill in the blanks better than they do.

I've read a couple of the new books but not the aftermath ones yet. Catalyst was OK for what it was and it added a lot of much needed backstory for Galen Erso. Seems to be a recurring theme that you need to read the books to fully understand what the fucks gan on.

Still, more nerdy shit in white

I don't get how Snoke could've existed undetected given the Empires took great pains to find and turn turn force sensitive cunts into inquisitors or just kill them. If he was an inquisitor, then why no mention of him before? Even in Rebels they haven't touched on him. He needs explaining. Personally I think they should have gone down the Darth Plagueis route for him, instead he's just Palpatine 2.0.

As for Rey, it's the lack of any fucking training that bothers me. It's poor writing and she's the very definition of a Mary Sue. Sort it out Disney.

Watched this film again yesterday with my pal.

Still a bit meh about it. It's a good film to watch, but it's to Disney for my liking now.

It's fair taking a beating on rotten tomatoes audience score like.

A reviewer summed it up perfectly for me. "There's a lot I like about The Last Jedi, but there's a lot that I dislike about it".

Was also in seeing it again yesterday. Enjoyed it more second time around after reading abit more about the back story.

I've read plenty of the back story being the nerd I am, but it's not so much the storyline that's put me off it's some of the scenes. I've mentioned a couple in white below.

Leia Poppins, Canto Bight Stampede a few other bits and bobs.

That's the Disney factor I guess.
