He's a better defender now than VVD ever was at this age & VVD was only good going forward in the past & this hid the fact he was a pretty shite defender when He was closer to McKenna's age now.

 

I don't know if the defending side of VVD's game has improved. I would assume so, given his value increase but he certainly wasn't great at the actual defensive side of his game in any of his time at Celtic.

 

In all seriousness if I had the choice between VVD back then & McKenna NOW I would say that McKenna is far better because the defensive side of his game (ie his bread & butter) is far better.

 

& McKenna is certainly now slouch in going forward either he just isn't given as much of a chance to show this at Aberdeen as VVD was at Celtic
