Class Of 92-93 V 25 Years On.

Recommended Posts

A few folk on here have mentioned that our squad now is up there with willie millers side quarter of a century ago.

Thought I would list them both against either. For comparison.

Goalkeepers.

Snelders. Lewis

Watt. Rodgers

Defenders.

Wright. Logan

Connor. Considine

McLeish. O Connor.

Mckimmie. Reynolds

Irvine. Arnasson

Smith. McKenna

Watson Gregg. Harvie.

Watson Graham

Winnie.

Midfield.

Grant. Christie

Mason. Shinnie

Aitken. McLean.

Kane. GMS.

Richardson Tansey.

Ten caat. Stewart.

Forwards.

Jess. May

Shearer. Rooney

Booth. Stockley

Paatelainen. Maynard

Roddie. Wright.

S Thomson.

Gibson.

OK so the 92 squad was bigger but how does it compare with the present day one.

Bobby Connor was left midfield every game for seasons fuck nos how he's been shifted to left back 25 years later.

Is jimmys top squad more comparable?

I think the league in 92/93 and maybe even in jimmys days were a higher standard than is now.

To be honest, I think the current class would easily beat Jimmys lot. Some absolute abominations in that team.

Hard to pin-point when exactly the standard dropped in scottish football. Was probably co-incident with the SKY revolution of English football. That would have began around '92... so i think EB4B's comparison is an interesting one. I reckon it probably took until the late 90's early 00's for the standard to really bottom out.

I was a season ticket holder from 97-00 and the standard was utterly woeful. Some absolute shocking player at Pittodrie: Mackie, Young brothers, McGuire, McAllister, Lilley, Perry, Solberg, etc... I remember watching us a few times against Dundee united and at the time, Maurice Malpas, who was approaching his 40th, was usually the best player on the park. He was fat and slow, but read the game well and was light-years ahead in terms of technical ability. At his age, he shouldn't have been able to compete.

I'll tell you when the demise started.

1998, the inception of that cartel.

The SPL.

The season before it started the combined debt of premier division clubs was £10million, then the SPL started.

I think you're comparisons are way off.

The players don't match up positionally.

It's a very hard comparison to make.

I still think the 90's squad would comfortably beat today's team.

Dunno, the 90's squad might be a bit out of shape compared to today's boys.

Seriously, the squad that lost on the final day at Iprix (90/91?), was perhaps our best ever, even better than the Fergie days.

Give me a break.

I was pished on the bus when i posted.

Still think the 90's squad would romp this current one.

OK the forward line in both squads could be safely described as the two best we have ever had.

Rooney. Maynard. Stewart. May. GMS. Wright. 2017

Pattelainen. Shearer. Booth. Jess. Mason. 1992.

Nicholas. Gillhaus. Jess. Booth. Van der ark. 1990.

I'd certainly say the 92 forwards would all easily be first pics today.

That 1990 line up is tasty.
