Aberdeen sack Derek McInnes

It sounds a lot better than "weel he might go, ken".

Dunno like. Seems to me they are more than willing to keep it here all the way to the new stadium and beyond.

Why?

For saying we should be targeting the europa group stages? Don’t think anyone has ever thought/said anything contrary.

The club pay lip service to it and that's all.  We'll go in under prepared again and no doubt get punted early

Not targeting - achieving the Europa League Group stages... I can target a shag off of Irina Shayk... I'll always be disappointed, as I imagine would she under any circumstances...

It would be nice to get our squad more or less in place early. Our best season under McInnes was arguably 2016-17 when most of the first team were in place from the season before. We won't have the benefit of that continuity this year so would be nice to get some key players secured early.

Unfortunately when you're on a tight budget you can't always get what you want when you want and have to gamble on getting value closer to the deadline.

Yeah it would be, but we're constantly told our manager works 2 windows in advance... I think that's bullshit personally... You know what budget (or you should do) well enough in advance of the transfer window opening so that's no excuse... You might not know whether you're targets are interested in coming but if they don't want to make a quick decision move on... Our season starts at the end of June (mid June if you count training), if he needs help in dealing with transfers he should be given it... What does Craig Brown even do ? You know whatever DMc's been doing hasn't really been working particularly well if Europe is so important, so he maybe needs to look at a different approach... In my opinion of course...

Thank you. Saved me typing it. Was buying Forester or getting Lowe in on loan in August a move to address Euro Qualification? And yet those were the positions we’d known months in advance we were lacking.

I’m not expecting us to sign Stevie G or squander millions on Defoe to address the point since at the end of the day you can always draw a giant in that competition and your investment is gone (and how much do I hope it happens to them but that’s for a different thread). I’d just like a little more structure with a focus on giving Europe a proper go. It doesn’t appear that way now if I’m honest...in my opinion.

And the other point that was bang on the money, literally. It’ll be harder to maintain the status quo moneywise now that sevco have their shit together. It’ll be easier, and the extra rewards are clear, to get qualification or even get to a level that you draw a Bayern tv rights bonus (lucky draw required for sure, either way) than it will be to simply hope for second in a corrupt SPFL.

Burnley happens. I get that. But he didnt get nearly the criticism for Maribor or Apollon that he deserved. Again in my opinion.

Apollon maybe, but Maribor? Come on to fuck.

Came away from both those games (and of course home first leg both times which emphasises the luck required) thinking they were nothing special. Maribor keeper was utter horse as I recall. Shots on target? Can’t be arsed looking it up but we hardly peppered the lad.

So in your genius opinion the keeper was shit .. so we should have won ? Wish you were manager!

No in my genius opinion we should have had a structured, ideally settled team capable of exploiting apparent weaknesses in an opposition who no-one is dismissing the European pedigree of. I wonder how one might go about getting one of them there pedigree thingies?

Could also be down to the fact McGinn scored, referre brought it back for a penalty. Rooney then missed (the only time he missed one for us I believe) and we ended up without an away goal. We had a calamity of an O.G and the ref was looking to send Stockley off after his first challenge.

Let's blame the manager though.

Part of your solution involves having all new signings in place by the euro qualifying rounds. Do you really think that Mcinnes doesn't want this too?

You take on board budgets meaning we really dont have much to work with yet expect us to get suitable first team players to commit to us very early in the summer. Do you not see the contradiction here?

Our problem during transfer windows is down to not having options when X player turns us down. McInnes generally knows who/what he wants, but when that fails he never seems to have any backup plan. Hence why we end up with last minute loans etc.

I'm nae sure of the record but have our last minute loans not been quite successful?

Yes of course I see the contradiction. Our transfer strategy appears designed to give us a team in August. Anything that team does in June appears to be thought of as just a bonus. Do I see why that is? Yes of course. Can we change it? Obviously not easy. Am I prepared to pretend it doesn’t exist? No.

Have our last minute loans been successful? Domestically yes. Maclean was a fantastic deal for us as was Madison, Hector(loan?) now Lowe etc.

In European terms no. If anything they add to the frustration because we know (usually) they’re leaving, we draw kuznetzov villa in June and Derek tells us (in August) that he’s hopeful of filling the gap. Surely you see the contradiction there?
