Is ridiculous though, how fucking squeaky clean do you have to be.

Guaranteed nobody on here has not replied a smiley face to something that could be conceived as homophobia / racist etc

Twisted by the press if they want if you got in the public eye you’d be fucked.

Can file politicians alongside referees as odd career choices unless you like being called a lying cunt on a daily basis. Imagine not being able to go for a pint without people filming you and noising you up. Presumably strippers are a no go too, so that’s another negative.
On reflection, not for me.

Re leaders debate.
Corbyn did far better.
Johnson was exceptionally irritating by constantly exceeding the allocated time to answer a question and apropos of nothing constantly gesticulating and bellowing get brexit done, like a giant posh parrot. The irony is that he and his cohorts voted against a brexit deal causing the first extension in March 19. And, every party’s proposal will break the impasse one way or another. If the shitholes of England (and the north of Scotland) vote for this buffoon and give the tories a majority then they deserve every broken promise that will surely follow.

I agree that these retrospective trials by twitter / forum posts are a disgrace.

People should be able to say what they like.

The Aberdonian MP candidates "crimes" were hardly the worst things ever.

A Church of Scotland minister was suspended recently: he was called a racist for criticising Islam (which is a religion, not a race) and homophobic for accurately referring to the damage to public health caused by removal of stigma around homosexual conduct.

Both accusations are absurd and are about enforcing censorship, rather than addressing prejudice.

Interestingly, the ministers carpeting came after he heckled Jeremy Corbyn.

Both people above seem to have fallen foul  of the narrow band of acceptable PC opinions enforced by the political class.

In other news, apparently Jo Swinson succinctly answered "yes" when asked if she would ever consider using a nuclear weapon.

I would rather not vote, than vote Lib Dem, but I admire a simple, straight answer from a politician.

Obviously her balls are as big as her tits

I understand the sentiment. However, I can't help thinking people are excessively harsh on politicians. It's an exceedingly difficult job and the vast majority will be in it for the right reasons.

Can't make up my mind, are you trolling or just completely doolally?

I'm not trolling. Which aspect do you disagree with? Denigrating politicians is just default settings for most people.

It’s the nature of the beast . There are only a few high profile politicians and we are constantly waiting for them to slip up to highlight how corrupt or useless they are.
Obviously there are MP’s that do a lot of good work within their constituencies but it’s not highlighted because A. It’s not sexy and B. It’s rightly expected of them .

It probably is the nature of the beast, and it's fine (if not essential) that those who take up the mantle are subjected to robust critique from the public.

However, I definitely think it's a tough job that requires a lot of skill. To propose (as was) that 'ordinary / honest / humble / normal folk' should be politicians is, I think, to misunderstand what the job entails.

I agree Corbyn comes off as more honest, having more integrity.

Thought the leadership debate last night was pretty entertaining. Both scored a couple of mild zingers.

However, the programme style was irritating. The way they were kept to such short statements says it all really. Not much time for reasoned or in-depth debate. In an era where long-form podcasts rule the roost, traditional media is all about soundbites.

The moment where she got them to shake hands and 'make a pledge to be better behaved' or something was unnecessarily cringey.

Integrity? Cannae believe what I'm reading. He was pals with and a supporter of the IRA.

Let's take just one act of the IRA. They planted two bombs in Warrington. One simply designed to cause a rush towards the other. Both bombs in metal bins to add to the shrapnel.

Only two were killed. A 3 year old boy. And a 12 year old boy. The 3 year old boy was in town with his babysitter. He wanted to buy a mother's day card as a surprise for his mum. The 12 year old didn't die straight away. His parents had to later turn off a life support machine.

Some things transcend politics. That Corbyn, McDonald and Abbott glorify and support the IRA disgusts me to my core. Integrity????

I think he has integrity with regards to his core principles. He seems truly committed to redistribution of wealth, the centrality of public services, building a tolerant society.

But if you want to criticise him for the above reason, that seems reasonable too.

Me: I hate the IRA, they kill innocents

You: I don't mind them, Israel is pretty horrible

You stick to your whataboutery.

Difficult when your team are the hun wannabes.

The ‘whatsboutery’ aspect as you put it is perfectly justified as it gives balance and comparison .

Except they don't and you're talking utter shite.

A good Friday type agreement would've come 15 years earlier if Corbyn had been PM.
