ab24_5qh
I believe that this is due to the introduction of the Academy System. Boys now sign for club academies at age 10. In the central belt there are a dozen academies that are on the look out for players. My lad was in with Queens Park, Motherwell, Hearts, Accies and in the Aberdeen satellite setup. The reality was that boys in the central belt would need to travel up to Aberdeen every second weekend, or they could go to a club on their door step. To be honest it's a no brainer - the parents are always going to put them to the local option. The sad thing, in my opinion, is the academy system does not work and it spits out too many boys for reasons of physical development. Back to the old S-Forms system and allow lads to play football with their mates. Link to comment
