Barcelona haven't been the force they once were since Iniesta and Xavi retired. Messi is a phenomenal player but he's not the same player without them Imo. For anyone who hasn't seen the goals here are the highlights. Enjoy! Sorry, had to do that as it's Champions League and not Europa. Link to comment

strachanmcgheegoal
Barcelona contributed to their own downfall with some shocking defending and suicidal distribution from the back. Bayern are a refreshing Northern European style team though albeit hugely talented at it. That said the Bayern coach, standing there in his skinny jeans (reminded me of Craig Brown) was like a pub coach who’d blagged his way in in a comedy sketch. He been sacked yet? Link to comment
aberdeen1970
Aye, Xavi was the one that made that team tick. The decline started then. Their recruitment has been generally poor too in recent years and there aren't as many youngsters getting a chance from their academy. Losing Neymar was untimely for them as well. The team needs completely rebuilt. Their best players are all nearing the end now. Pique, Busquets, Alba, Suarez and of course Messi all in the twilight of their careers. Big rebuilding job for whoever takes over next. Sounds like the politics in the boardroom are a shit show as well. Link to comment
Sheepo
Messi was absolutely Horrendous last night slow, lazy and disinterested. A Horrendous performance and whoever gets the Barca job has a massive rebuild on his hands but with money tight and there fans not the most patient it will be hard, maybe someone like Xavi could make a go of it Link to comment
aberdeen1970
Xavi, Puyol, Pochetino and Koeman are the names being mentioned. Link to comment
strachanmcgheegoal
Ooft any two of those 4. Ouch. Assuming of course they don’t fall into the Willie Miller managerial hole of “why do you need this explaining?” Link to comment
The Cockney Don
Poch has said in the past that he'd never manage Barcelona, as he's an Espanyol man. Rumours around now though is that he's met with Barca officials. Disappointing if true. Link to comment

aberdeen1970
They might go with Pochettino as manager and Xavi as assistant. I think Puyol fancies being the president. Link to comment

Which is why bringing in Xavi or similar as assistant would be a good political move. A move for Harry Kane would be on the cards then too. Link to comment
The Cockney Don
That's another season that Man City haven't won it. Not even made a Final. Link to comment

The Cockney Don
Rooting for RB Leipzig tonight. Not keen on PSG at all, one of those tosspot clubs, dickhead support, and Neymar's an arsehole. 1 Link to comment
Simply Red
Toni Kombaure should take a lot of credit for that from PSG tonight. Its clear his dna still runs thru that club. Link to comment

Black fella in the pub tonight wearing a PSG training jacket, not even so much as a YASS or a fist pump when they scored. Said to him 'looking good for your team tonight' after they scored their 2nd, he just made a sort of grunting noise and turned back to the telly. Imagine reaching a Champs League final and showing zero emotion! Dickhead support right enough. Link to comment

sheepcrooky
Seen somewhere that this years final between Bayern and PSG will be the first since 1998 that two actual champions have reached the final. Link to comment

Just ridiculous isn't it and makes a mockery of the competition and exactly why - understandably - most folk cant be arsed watching it Link to comment
aberdeen1970
I don't mind watching the latter stages but the groups have ran their course a long time ago. Because of the country protection and the seedings its basically the same teams playing each other every year. The final is free on YouTube on a Sunday night in the middle of a local lockdown. I'll probably be watching. As you say it's a nice change that two champions are playing but it's hard to warm to either club really. Bayern the lesser of the two evils. Link to comment
