I have an affection for my home town club and let me tell you that you have a cracker of a player in Maddison

You won't get him long term he will play for England one day but he is a cracker of a play maker always wants the ball and has a great eye for a pass

By the time he finds out where the beach end and king street end is it will be his four months up. The tight fisted Directors and Milne need to go and be replaced with people who want Aberdeen to be Big. All Spin doctors in their own comfort zone. Mcinnes as well how did he get a four year contract. Whats the point of a new stadium when you havnt got a team performing and hitting the back of the net. Trouble ahead again this season.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Forget Europe next year.

Who are these people?

Where are these people?

Why hasn't this happened yet?

Our club hasn't gone bust...yet...count your lucky stars.

The negativity of the 4 month loan people need to chill about. Some saying a total waste of time. If he's a match winner and can turn a few draws into wins and get us an extra handful of points in that 4 months then it'll be very much worthwhile.

What's to say Norwich going well come January but no room in squad to have him close to getting a game and the possibility of us keeping him until summer becomes likely?

Getting a player of higher standard than what we've got for half a season is better than permanently signing a player of lesser standard to fill the squad if you ask me so I'm happy with this deal

Reading between the lines of a lot of the comments from Norwich fans about him being loaned out I think there's a bit of financial politics involved. The wages Naismith will be on will mean they cant afford to have a player like him rotting in the reserves until Christmas so he'll be in the first team squad until they sell him. When they do this guy Maddison will be his replacement but until then they'd rather he played at a decent level than stutter in the reserves.

He'll be heading back in January and Naismith will be getting punted on to make space for him in the first team.

read a couple of profile pages about him from back in Jan when he was being linked with a lot of clubs down there. Sounds like he will definitely give the team a bit of much needed flair and full of confidence in his ability but might need to watch out that he doesn't get booted off the park. When we play Caley I think he will quickly find the likes of Draper will very quickly try to nail him so I hope the refs will make sure they give him protection and his team mates are willing to show they are not going to let him get kicked of the field. here is the profiles

James Maddison marked his comeback from injury this season by scoring two goals in two games over the Christmas period including a last minute equaliser to secure a draw against Chesterfield. Maddison made his debut for Coventry at the start of the 2014/15 season and was a regular for the first team early in the season before being struck down with an injury leading to him being out for four months until April. This season Maddison was given the No. 10 shirt, signifying his importance to the team despite his young age.

The 19 year olds most impressive attribute is his technical ability, in particularly his dribbling. Maddison likes to run at players and take them on from his attacking midfield position and impressively he has excellent awareness whilst he dribbles and so is able to spot passes to teammates whilst running with the ball at pace. The youngster is able to receive the ball in tight spaces due to his excellent first touch and low centre of gravity. He is adept at playing with both feet and likes to play short, intricate passes to create space for himself.

Maddison is a set piece specialist, already scoring a couple of goals for the first team from dead ball situations. He also has an excellent attitude and is willing to work for the team defensively which is a good trait for someone of his age to have and his work ethic should allow him to continue to improve throughout his career.

Maddison could do with adding more goals to his game if he would like to make the step up to the next level. He is a good finisher however needs to get into more goalscoring positions if he wants to get his name on the scoresheet more often. Physically, Maddison is not the biggest player and so can struggle in physical confrontations however his technical ability means that he is often able to avoid situations where his lack of strength can be used against him.

In our weekly Scout feature, Daniel Roberts takes a detailed look at an emerging talent from world football. In this latest edition he takes a closer look at Coventry City’s attacking midfielder James Maddison.

Regarded by many as the best English talent in League One, James Maddison has experienced a rapid rise to fame since breaking into the Coventry first team in the 2014-15 season.

The 19-year-old made his professional debut in the early stages of that campaign, coming on as a substitute in a League Cup tie against Championship club Cardiff before getting another chance from the bench in the Sky Blues’ 3-1 home league loss to Bristol City. On a poor day otherwise for the club, Maddison provided a small positive from the game, as he set up his side’s only goal of the game.

It was enough to launch the youngster into a starting berth and, once again, he provided a plus in another poor Coventry performance, grabbing their only goal with a sublime free kick as they fell to a 4-1 defeat by Oldham Athletic. His impressive early form was quickly rewarded, as he signed a new three-and-a-half year contract with the club a month after his debut.

This season, Maddison featured in the Sky Blues’ first five games of season before suffering from injury, which left him on the sidelines until the middle of December.

He returned in the fixture against Oldham earlier this month before firmly reminding the Cov faithful what they had been missing, scoring his side’s winner on Boxing Day in their 1-0 victory over Port Vale with a fantastic individual effort before grabbing an equaliser in the final minute through a spectacular free-kick against Chesterfield on Monday.

The confident youngster started his footballing journey at Coventry at the age of seven and represented both Under-18 and Under-21 sides before his promotion to the first team.

Comfortable playing with both feet, Maddison has extremely impressive close-control skills and can free himself from tight situations with extreme ease. He has the ability to impose himself onto a game and create the all-important chances that forwards crave.

Discussing his game, the attacking midfielder said: “I like to have a lot of the ball at my feet, dribble with it, take players on, draw them in. That’s how I earn a lot of fouls I think. Big strong defenders think ‘I’m just going to show him what I’m all about’ and I’ll nick it away and win a free-kick.”

What the Experts Say

Coventry Academy manager Richard Stevens: “He’s a real gem and very exciting.”

Coventry manager Tony Mowbray: “The important thing is that he is a very talented boy who has got all it takes to become an exceptional player.”

Former Coventry manager Steven Pressley: “His willingness to learn and do extra to improve was a crucial reason in offering him his first professional deal. We’re excited by this signing and we believe James can have an extremely bright future at this club.”

Where Does The Future Lie?

According to recent reports, Arsenal and Liverpool are currently leading the race in trying to lure the midfielder away from Coventry, although Tottenham have also been credited with an interest.

With a £10million price tag attached to Maddison and Mowbray reluctant to sell the starlet, it is unlikely that a transfer will arise without at least a return loan clause embedded into the deal.

Much like the Dele Alli transfer from MK Dons to Spurs last season, which saw the midfielder return to Stadium:MK for the remainder of the season, if a transfer is to happen it will be expected that Maddison will continue to develop at Coventry for the remainder of the campaign, possibly stretching on into the 2o16-17 season.

When asked on the speculation surrounding the youngster, Mowbray said: “My advice has always been to James to let his career develop where he’s going to play every week and where he’s appreciated; let his talent flourish.

“What’s the rush at 18/19 if he’s talented enough? Even at 20 in two years time he might have played 100-odd games for us so, for me, he has to let his talent flourish.

“The only scenario I could see for James Maddison is for someone to pay us the right amount of money and we get him back for two years on loan and invest the money”.

The 19-year-old joined Norwich in January for £6m from Coventry City on a three-and-a-half-year-deal. He appears to be pacey, very skill from the videos I have watched and can take a free kick. Good addition but would have been better to get a season loan.

No he didn't. it was £2m with 'potential' add ons or similar.

I like the look of him but all this £6m chat is based on the dreaded 'potential'

What do you base this on? I understand he was signed by Norwich last January and then loaned back to Coventry - have you seen much of him at Coventry?

A 6m premiership player is about 250k up here...hope he's better than McLean

I hope he's great but if we are loaning in 19 year old centre mids it suggests our youth players aren't up to much

When we won the under-20s league title two seasons ago the majority of the team including the captain Keiran Gibbons were released. It's a shame that we have had hardly any players from the under-20s 'make it' so to speak, that's why I am an advocate for bringing back the Reserve League. It benefits both young and older and gives young a far better chance of making a career for themselves in football.

4 months loan.

What is the point? Unless the League cup is the height of our ambitions this season

Clearly if he plays well enough for us to WANT to extend the loan for the full season we won't get him. Zero chance. Even if Norwich may not play him after January, some other club down that way will take him.

17 league games in that time, half of our remaining league games, as well as potentially 3 additional games which could see us lift a cup. Thats the point. He sounds like a real talent so to have him for half a season to potentially gain us more points is surely a positive thing. Like I said before, I'd rather we sign a player who could potentially be the first name on the team sheet for half the season (initially) than sign a journey man squad filler who will hardly feature. Time will tell if he's any good but the reports sound very positive so I'm optimistic about him being a success

So I assume this guy was basically taken in as a short time replacement for whilst Jack is injured yet it seems this lad is a lot more forward thinking as opposed to just recycling possession.

Strange how McInnes didn't feel the importance of sourcing a more direct replacement for such an important role.

McLean is certainly not going to take on that role, as most of his passes go straight to landfill.
