Virgo in commentary saying the best ever to play the game. For me you canna split him and Hendry.
He’ll stay on 5 world titles to Hendry’s 7 for another year at least then...
IMO he’s better than hendry who was done by his early 30s. ROS still in his absolute prime and seems to win most of the big tournaments he enters. He has won more majors, has more 147s (probably), more centuries and could easily win another 5 or 6 majors. Only reason he hasn’t won more WCs is because of the long format. His style is not suited to the marathon / long drawn out war of attrition that the crucible entails. Plus, players like ebdon and Selby (and hendry tbf) knew if they played a patient game he would eventually crack. And he usually did.

hendry commenting on mcguire v Cahill last frame decider. “Mcguire is gone he can’t win this match”.
McGuire then wins the decider comfortably, limiting his opponent to a single point scored. Very good hendo

For the bulk of the 1990s it certainly did.So if Hendry can play the patient long game would that not make him better?
But, ironically, Ronnie managing to play the long game and maintain a career at the top level for over 25yrs seals him top dog status. IMO.
I would like to see trump win it this year. His match v ding should be a good one.

Longevity doesn’t necessarily mean O’Sullivan is better tho?
In the early to mid 90’s Hendry was unbeatable and even won a world championship coming back from a broken arm.
He also played against the likes of Higgins and Williams in their prime.Who is around now of that calibre for O’Sullivan to beat?
He was also world number one consecutively for something like 7 or 8 years.
Ronnie has played longer, has more centuries etc but I bet if Hendry hadn’t developed the snooker equivalent of the yips,he’d have some more.
He also beat the Rocket in a final frame decoder with a 147.
O’Sullivan without doubt one of the most naturally gifted ever to play, but if I had to pick one of them in their prime it would be Hendry.
