A fairly standard treatment in treatment of cancers and palliative care is to start (and often never stop) the sufferer on steroids, often fairly hefty doses. Helps reduce inflammation and cerebral oedema if there's brain secondaries

It can help improve their appetite as a handy side effect but downside is weight gain. However it also causes fluid retention so ankles/ legs/ abdomen start retaining water. It's why many cancer sufferers look really bloated towards the end......often despite being reluctant or even being totally unable to eat
