I think he did a few, but in those days, BBC Scotland and STV always had their own commentary teams doing it alongside so we never heard him.

Ach, Motson was alright. His "impartial" commentary in the England v. Croatia game back in 2007 when the Croats came back to beat them 3-2 at Wembley, therefore eliminating them from qualifying for Euro 2008, was the most memorable for me.

Motson deserves his minute tribute down south but hasn't done enough up here to merit it. Personally I thought he was good at his job but became a bit of a caricature in his last few years.

I grew up listening to Alistair Alexander and David Begg on radio Scotland. No commentator I've heard since has been anywhere near those two.

Well his older brother was a minister in Aberdeen for the best part of 25 years. And his other older brother then became our manager for a bit.....and by all accounts he regularly did get a bit
