Not sure. I think that was the initial belief. Not sure if they've done more research on it or not. Ive stopped listening/reading to every bit of Covid news these days, so it's entirely possible I've missed things. Link to comment

My daughters granny caught it at the same time she did, the old girl had already been given the 2 jabs, barely registered as a mild cold, daughter was worse but still not so bad. The granny puts it down to the protection from the vaccine, given her age could well have been a life saver. Could be coincidence I guess. Link to comment

Hopefully that positive outcome is an accurate reflection on the effectiveness of the vaccine on a bigger scale. Link to comment

Spot on you received your second jab min?. I know the predictor is designed to just provide an estimate, however, it seems to be dragging on now. Patience is not one of my strong points though,?. manboobs109
They've opened an 'asymptomatic testing centre' along the road from me. Watch the figures go up so we can go back into level 4. Fucking complete nonsense. Link to comment

Good advice. We’re clearly in a decent place but they keep rolling out the most pessimistic, negative, doom and gloomers they can find with predictions of third waves and mutant variants hiding in the shadows. Some ‘expert’ on today mentioning a possible summer wave which although not improbable doesn’t really square with how things went last year or give much credence to the effectiveness of the vaccine which a heathy majority should have received by then, at least in part. I’ve said it before that the government need to show some faith in their own vaccine programme and that it will accomplish what it needs to do. There has to be a collective acceptance that it’ll be around for years to come and we’ll just have to get on with living with it. People aren’t going to keep accepting having these measures imposed on them ad nauseum. Link to comment

We've had plenty to time now to get an effective track and trace system so there's no excuse that that, combined with the excellent vaccine progress shouldn't allow us to get back to something close to normal by the summer. Id be all but banning foreign travel too for the time being too, in order to protect our progress. 1 Link to comment
manboobs109
The levels system is just an inexorable path to lockdown. As long as we keep it going we'll end up in lockdown. No idea why anyone thinks otherwise. Link to comment

daytripping
We're down to 4 new cases, 5 yesterday. Just about wiped it out in time for the travel ban to end. Queue minks from glasgow and the central belt arriving to infect us again. Should never be a nationwide thing, each area on merit is clearly the way to go. Link to comment

As you open things up the virus spreads more so I can't see how you go down, only up. Add in asymptomatic testing and what do you get? Lockdown. Link to comment

manboobs109
I'm going to make a prediction. Come autumn Sturgeon will decide we need a 'short sharp lockdown' because of rising numbers. Boris will refuse to fund furlough and there will be lots of squabbling and chat about how we don't have control of all the levers etc. Bookmarked Link to comment

I've no problem with them making predictions. But it's very annoying that nobody seems to revisit past predictions to see how accurate they were. We shouldn't be listening to anyone who has a history of being wrong, we should be giving airtime to those who have got things right. If there are no consequences to getting it wrong people will continue to get it wrong. Link to comment

Clinicians have become conditioned to be totally risk averse, in a world inhabited by an ever litigious public. Link to comment
