Coronavirus

3 million infections in Scotland they reckon.

12000 people died with covid on the death cert(not from covid)

Even if we presume that the 12k died from covid that means at the moment you have a better than 99.6% chance of surviving an infection.

It's better than that because a large percentage of deaths were prior to the vaccine and from a much stronger strain than Omicron which is now dominant.

If age ranges and comorbidities are taken into account the chances of a relatively healthy under 65 who has been vaccinated dying from Omicron must be absolutely miniscule.

Only if you keep taking those shots.

Most folk I know who’ve been double jabbed/ boosted are getting the Omicron ‘cold’. Here’s me, unjabbed, not even a sniffle ?‍♂️ and I’m out most nights socialising, no mask whatever…

Here’s me, triple jabbed and also never caught it.

I’m not blind or naive to see what’s happening out there though

And I wouldn’t describe it as ‘far more potent’, mainly they have just had a mild cold, or even no symptoms.

For many people that may be the case.

I don’t seem to recall 15,000 in hospital with the common cold though, so that would suggest that it’s far more potent than a simple mild cold.

It’s certainly not worth destroying our lives for, locking people up and denying them access to normal life. It’s not Ebola FFS. It’s not even the flu now ?

Absolutely we want to get back to normal,  I still think you are trivialising it from what it actually is.

The world really has lost its mind.

Well, certainly true for some people.

Well over half the population had it now showing the restrictions were a complete waste of time.  Herd immunity should have been the strategy all along(and dare I say it shield the vulnerable ?)

We've never tested every hospital admission for the common cold

Aye its serious even here in Oregon. Luckily this variant in weak sauce. The next  might turn out to be 90% fatal. You never know. Then we will all be laughing about those anti- vax/anti mask/anti-distancing idiots....

Not sure the common cold kills too many people to be fair. Should be testing admissions for cancer IMO.

Unless you're being admitted to hospital suffering from cancer obviously. Be daft to test you for that if that were the case.

The common cold most likely killed millions of native Americans just before colonization. They had no immunity

LOL

Viruses tend to get weaker as they mutate so can't see that happening and if it did there's a fair chance your current vaccine would be as useless as the cloth nappy you wear on your coupon.

I can accept that.

Listen, I’m one for getting back to or as near to normal as possible.

Just picking up that it’s not something to be trivialised

Nor should the threat be wildly exaggerated as has happened.

True. My sense is that they have done so to try and convince more to help protect the vulnerable.

This worked to an extent early doors and whilst a vaccine was being developed.

The longer it goes on, the less people want to go along with the extremes

Not really - a large proportion of Covid deaths were in the vulnerable as a result of them knowingly putting Covid positive patients into care homes.

Do you even know what kind of point you’re trying to make here? ? Something might happen that might kill 90% of those that catch it. The States has changed some of you boys into right drama queens.

Yeah likely weaker. But i do not take anything for granted and our State government isn't either. I lost a very pretty lassie to this.  So i am careful. Got my booster today. I wouldn't care if the anti-vaxxers got hit hard to be honest. Here they are all Orange Man Fascists. Are they all extreme right/anti science in Scotland also?

Maybe its a TDS vaccine you need ?

If it was 90% fatal it would be intensely stupid to be against restrictions. The fact that this is about 0.1% fatal, if that, means the restrictions might be a touch ott.

Its worked in Oregon our death rate is one of the lowest of the states.  I guess we care about our vulnerable folks here.  Fucking Communists

Aye nothing to do with having one of the lowest population densities?  ?

Actually, in the Valley which 80% of the population live in its low. But in Eastern Oregon who believe Trump the rate is high. Now they are bitching about hospital beds for something they insisted was "a hoax"

Like most posters on here (them all apart from you I'd wager) I couldn't give a fuck.
