As an "expert" in infectious disease how to stop it spreading and they'll say limit contact. It's not their job to weigh up the other effects.

Politicians, rules, guidance, none of them can control a virus. It'll do what it's gonna do.

Everyone knows the script now, give businesses support to close if they choose/need to, pay people who are ill to isolate if required and let the rest of us navigate our way through as we choose to.

You understand the virus passes from person to person? They had to control certain elements of behaviour (mainly socialising) without an appropriate vaccine. With one now, it shouldn't happen.

You might think the various changes in rules etc are the best way to change behaviour but I think they've had minimal impact and are having a decreasing amount of impact as this goes on.

People will act through fear/conscience, not because Boris Johnson tells them not to.
