I get this 100%. And to a large extent yes, it is good to see the club standing up for itself.

But talk is cheap. And Cormack has lots of it.

Hopefully these tactics start and end here, and Cormack learns fast from his failures.

We have not improved as a team since Goodwin has taken over, and with such a large clearout, he will live and die by his recruitment this summer.

How can they improve when they have the same underperforming premadonas running around performing the same crap.   Things won’t change until Goodwin gets his way and what signings he has in mind , and don’t go spouting off about we have not improved since Goodwin has taken over.  One other thing we have improved we have a manager that looks and speaks like a manager and isn’t afraid to say it as it is, and not one who looks and speaks like Minnie Mouse.

So when your close to retiring from your job you'd be happy and grateful to take a 50% pay cut to do the same job you'd have been doing for the previous 18 years... in fact potentially a lot more work if taking on coaching also?

The coaching bit works both ways though at this stage.

Andy gets a club to be able to complete his professional licence and the club gets to utilise him for coaching.

I understand your doubts about Cormack etc However, I don't think I can name 1 player who had x amount on their contract aged 33, had a year out injured and have then been offered x/x+  for their next contract aged 35?

Absolutely, i dont doubt that. However at the end of the day its a job and you negotiate when you're being offered a new contract and new wage. Its only being greedy if he was demanding substantially more money than he was previously on which i highly doubt.

No. That's not true at all.

Without knowing the truth nobody will know whether they were being greedy or not. If he was asking for more than he's currently on then he's being greedy... if he's asked for the same as he's currently on then he's just trying his hand but thats not greedy... if he's asked for less than he's currently on then its definitely not greedy.

If I was much worse/less capable at my job and in the process of being replaced, then I'd see that coming.

Id also be grateful if my employer was funding my future training and development to set me up for my next career by paying for me to do qualifications.

He's being greedy considering his age, injury problems and the fact we agreed to pay for his coaching too. We can agree to disagree it's a forum.

Brilliant move from Goodwin coming out and telling us straight what has happened

The considine agenda can be put to bed now. He wanted a longer term deal at 35yrs old coming off the back of a serious injury...... I'd like to think his agent has filled his head with shite and he's followed with it,  Regardless, He's delusional to think he can dictate to the club what he wants at this stage in his career,

Good luck wherever he goes, But lets put this into perspective, We've lost a journeyman centre half at the end of the day, Not Cannavaro

Absolutely.

Aye good luck Andy, but you've made a rip roaring cunt of this one.

Credit to Goodwin for clearing up any doubt on the matter.

No fucking about.

Hopefully the club statement put out about AC shuts up the folk who are wailing like prom queens about him leaving.

Made a very generous offer for a 35 year old whose been out for 8 months injured.

He/his agent got greedy

The club withdraw the offer

End of story.

Thanks for the service, good luck & goodbye.

Goodwin's statement seems very balanced to me.

Andy's agent has fucked up here.

At 35 on the back of a season out injured £100k per year minimum is a good wage for a player who is likely to be used sparingly next season + being given assistance to progress towards a post playing career.

Imagine being paid that wage in the real world for doing less than normally expected + getting trained for your next potential job at the same time.

With the current cost of living crisis players/agents (delete as appropriate) should waken up and smell the coffee!!!!

^^^this

excellent post.

reality check needed by either Andy or his Agent (or both).

join the rest of us in the real world

Don't know what all the fuss is about, considenes agent has rolled the dice & failed.

Considine has been a great servant to the club & I wish him well, but if we are really annoyed at losing a 35 yo bit part player then god help us.

I think it's time to clear the decks with guys who just aren't cutting it.

Too many players on inflated wages & doing fuck all for it.

I'm not sure there will  be another player to chalk up 20 years service with us ever again.

Regardless of what seems like the agent getting greedy (i really don't think he would have done so without Considine's express consent to do so).......I'd just far rather the club had made a statement along the lines of......."After reviewing his squad needs for next season and beyond, Jim Goodwin has decided not to offer Andy a new contract. He will always be a legend to everyone at AFC and along with thanking him for his 2 decades of service, we wish him every success in his future career"

It now looks like his departure will be under a massive cloud. Hopefully he will get to play a final match at Pittodrie before the season ends to say goodbye to the support but I'm not convinced he will now

That part needs removed. He is no legend, A stalwart yes, Legend... absolutely not in my book.

So you'll take a huge paycut when you're approaching retirement age? More fool you!!

Holy fuck.

A career in football is not like an office job. What part don't you get.  In the main, players as they get older have to negotiate down, but hope to get as good a deal as possible. I'd say it would have to be exceptional circumstances where as you get older you maintain your salary. Messi and Ronaldo for instance. Hate to break it to you but Consi ain't in that category.

Rinse out your knickers and move on with your day. I honestly can't believe that grown men are getting so upset about this. Women yes, men no.

An awful lot of shit being lost today by way too many people re - Considine

Its almost like in the last 2 years, Covid has erased how bang average big Andy was pre 2020. He was never anything more than a squad player but somehow racked up over 500 appearances for the Dons.

Goodwin has taken this one head on. I’ve no doubt he had Cormack in his ear double and triple checking he’s sure about this but has not buckled. McInnes and Glass would have caved in, no doubt about that.

For any club to offer any 35 yr old, with a recent major injury, a 2 yr deal, must be mental. Which probably rules in Cove

Cult figure for longevity and nothing else. Doesn’t come close to meeting LEGEND criteria.

His goals in the LC run of 2014 were mucho appreciato, M/well in particular

Given the contract Brown got in summer, I can maybe see why Considine’s agent though he could get something similar.

The problem with that though is Brown should never have got that contract in the first place.

A 1 year deal with the opportunity to get into the coaching side of things would have been fine. Albeit we don’t know what wage he was being offered/wanting.

The club said he was offered a six figure annual salary, agent wanted over half again.

A no brainier.
