Yes this is exactly what happened.

Offer was on the table pre Goodwin.

Consi and co made the counter offer for double the money and double the contract length.

Handsome Jim piled in and said look we are too far apart here we'll just need to call it a day.

It may or may not have been a negotiating tactic. 

Consi's agent leaked the story to the press.

The club said fuck you Andy yer out on yer certainly out on yer arse now.

So if he came back, remains to be see who is "climbing down" until we get an idea of the deal he's coming back on.

Either way you know it'll met with maximum over reaction from the usual drama queens.

It'll be a bit fucking embarrassing after us making a big song and dance when we pulled the contract. Either him or his agent went squealing to Burns about it so there's not a chance i'd be offering him what we did before. But it would be a sad indictment of where our recruitment is if we can't get a better and younger defender than Considine over the line.

If he's the only CB we sign it would be a bad look.

But I'm assuming if he came back it'd be as a squad/backup while transitioning to coaching.

Good luck Andy.

Will be a bit disappointing to see him playing elsewhere, but given he couldn’t even last an hour in his final game you do have to question the state his knee is in after his injury.

Have no doubt he’ll outscore Bates and Gallagher combined next season.
