Mikey Devlin - Injured Again

He must be looking decent in training and they aren't basing a new contract on past endeavours.  Glass has been fairly ruthless with dropping / getting rid of the players who aren't making the cut so far. McInnes did the same at the very beginning as well.

Is he ever in training though? Seems to spend his life on the treatment table

No problem with this.  Doubt he's getting a full wage.  Maybe its to do with the claim from the SFA where he originally got injured?  That is maybe covering his wages?  who knows.  Feel for the lad.

Perhaps 2 years ago but it's went well above and beyond that. Questionable talent aside, he's proven he can't stay fit for long enough to justify still being here.

I totally agree, its a strange one.  I dont think its as clear cut a decision as we all think it is

He was a promising player when he signed for us, and he had a very short spell where he looked like a good player. That aside, any of the times he's played a few games between injuries he's been a bombscare.

IF he does miraculously get back to a level of fitness where he can feature in a game - 1) it's been about 3 years since he last played, and 2) no way he's going 110% into headers and tackles because he's going to be absolutely terrified that he gets injured again. You might be able to get away with that if you're a winger or something but definitely not if you're a centre back.

Either way, totally pointless keeping him UNLESS as others have suggested it's something to do with insurance payouts etc

Thats what makes it even more bizarre is it. Apart from the fact he's injured all the time, he's nae exactly Cannavaro when he is fit and playing.

There was a 2 year period where Phil McGuire looked a class defender. Turned out he wasn't, then he was binned. Devlin showed it for about 3 months and has had about 4 contract extensions as a result.

Mikey Devlin is the future captain of our great club. Considine is finished, big Joe is wanting away as quickly as possible and Scott Brown will most likely retire after next season.
I would go one step further and take this club captain role off big Joe and give it straight to Devlin.

Give him the Angus the Bull suit and make him our new mascot, at least if he falls over in it there'll be plenty padding to prevent injury.

Still waiting on you to confirm why he was put on pens

Judging by the team from when he was on pen (below)(1-1 away to Utd 2002). It was probably just a 'hands up if your keen' job.

As soon as Sheerin came in, he was on them.

Aberdeen: Preece, Rutkiewicz, Anderson, McGuire, Deloumeaux, Mackie, Tiernan, Darren Young, Derek Young (Muirhead 45), D'Jaffo (Mike 67), Michie (Billio 61).

?

Devlin is a lot closer to full fitness than is being reported. Could very well make an appearance very soon. He isn’t costing the club much at all and they love his attitude and desire to get over what can only be described as a horrific time.
I can’t give too much away though

Good post. Unlikey he would get stuck and give 110 percent fearing injury

There lies a huge issue for us, we don't want half a player on the pitch

Also what happens when he is injured yet again

We should never risk giving him a contract, plus is not a standout player anyway, average at best
