I only really see them in Aldi. the 2nd picture you've posted is a roll. Some may call is a bap, but to me a bap is a softer, lighter style, with a sprinkling of flour on the top. 1 Link to comment

Would usually use Rowie but also sometimes say buttery for, well, a Rowie. Prior to its closing, a crispy Aitken's Rowie was the best. Now I would say that the Byron Baker has now taken over the Aitken's crown. Link to comment

strachanmcgheegoal
Late to this. A softie is a soft roll or bap. Putting flour on it makes it a floorie bap. Glasgow rolls have the hard top. Burn that and it’s a well fired roll. Link to comment
Don Fonte
The 'Well Fired Rolll' is a weegie construct to sell something they were too lazy to keep an eye on. Burnt I'd call it. 1 Link to comment
YorkDon
Rowies or butteries, sometimes rolls when I was growing up.I made some once a few years back. Not a bad attempt but obviously nae as good as Aitkens. Link to comment
maryhilldon
Traditional rolls (trad rolls) are the hand cut extra crispy rolls, dusted with rice flour. The cobble types 'breakfast' rolls are machine produced and dusted with wheat flour. I worked in McGhees bakery along the street from Firhill for 6 years, this is how they were referred to. I would call the floury soft rolls a 'bun'. Link to comment
