He's still got plenty of time on his side. And TA-A isn't exactly a world beater at right back to overhaul for a place in the side. I do still think he'd be better going out on loan to a decent Championship side for the first half of next season though. Far better to be tested at that level regularly than playing mainly U23 football and getting the odd appearance as a sub for the 1st team. He should really be targeting making himself first choice by the start of season 24-25

I'll rephrase.

Why does an injury suggest things aren't working out for him at Liverpool?

Did you think he'd be in the first team this season?

I said right direction! I’m sure when he signed he had a plan in his head of this season, few appearances off the bench, catch the eye, maybe A start and push on for pre season and more involvement. Needless to say a few injuries puts him in a different direction imo

If you say so!

He's had a couple of appearances off the bench and got good reviews.  He's played mainly for their under 23 as expected.

Folk slate Arnold but he's a top class attacking right back and was never going to be easy to displace this season.  England just happen to have heaps of good attacking right backs.

Definitely first part of what he might have hoped would happen have happened, but as I say a few injuries knocks you off your stride. You don’t end the campaign with the possibility of catching the eye as you go into pre season and with an injury you could go into pre season in a different position. He’s certainly a player I want to succeed even if he is at Liverpool

He couldn't have got off to a much worse start with injuries. It's a real shame as he probably would have made more of an impact on first team had he done the pre season tour etc. Was reading that Klopp rejected approaches from both Watford and Swansea for loan move so assume he did see him finding his way into the first team squad before the end of season. I guess Liverpools form hasn't been ideal for chucking a rookie in either.

A £4m player won't be on £5k/week which is roughly the level our highest paid players are on.

Coupled with his signing on fee, he'll certainly be set up for life on the proceeds of his current contract. Assuming he sees out his contract at Liverpool, he'll still only be turning 24 when it runs out. If he does well, Liverpool would surely try to extend it earlier alongside a hefty wage increase. But even if he proves not to be quite the standard they desire, and barring serious injury, he's already proven that at worst he'd be an asset to Celtic or sevco 🤮 or a lower EPL level club.

He'll eventually retire a very wealthy young(ish) man

Will he?

you know that nearly half his wage disappears before it reaches his bank account?

And, when he retires he will probably have another 50 or so years ahead of him.

Or are you thinking he’s going to pop his clogs at about 40?

Lol c’mon now.
He got a good contract for a few years, he hasn’t won the euro millions.
This set for life stuff is nonsense.

All correct.

The haverings and pish relentlessly repeated on this issue on "set for life" when even on the likes of Wright going to Ibrox are hilarious.

Does my fucking head in, glad you have addressed it.

He will be fine, he was already on the edges of the first team before his injury. Like you said if not Liverpool  it will be a Brighton or Fulham etc

Will. It. Fuck.

Tax management will ensure it does not. Professional sports people can put up to 25% of their earnings tax free into pension schemes. This along with other tax efficient schemes mean he would probably be paying 25% of his wages in tax at the absolute most.

Beermat math

He will be clearing a good quarter mil at least after tax a year easily

His Liverpool earnings ‘projected earnings in current contract’ may not be enough to currently see him set for life (if he never played again) but he has already signed a contract that will guarantee to see him better off than your average Joe

How he manages that money is another matter
