Matty Longstaff

The midfielder - who rose to prominence with a wonder goal against Manchester United two years ago - had an exit clause in his contract in early January and could return to the Magpies if new boss Howe sees fit.

Alternatively, Howe and his coaching staff could dip into their own contacts to find him a club that will ensure he gets the game-time he desperately needs.

Since arriving at Aberdeen, where he was assured of a fair chance, Longstaff has been on the bench as an unused sub.

With Glass feeling the heat and needing results, Longstaff has ended up in the middle of a political game.

Think Saturday was a weird one for him, chucked on and couldn't adjust to the tempo of the game.

Don't think he's the worst player ever as some have said, just not as good as we thought he'd be.

It was bizarre to sign a midfielder when we so desperately needed more defensive cover.

There's nothing political about it. He's just shit.

Hope we manage to get rid in January.

I'll guess that the club expected at least one midfielder to leave, if not two.

Poor planning then.

Think it would have been far worse had we not made a move then 2 central midfielders left and our options extremely limited.

Why not wait until they've left before finalising the loan?

PS: I hope the poor cunt doesn't read this board ?

Perhaps but then maybe Newcastle wanted the deal done quicker and weren't willing to hold off.

Aye don't get the political patter.

When he's played he's looked no more than an average SPFL midfielder. Not as bad as some say but not the level we'd thought he'd bring.

Agreed Consi. With his supposed pedigree you’d have expected him to come into the side and nail down a starting spot.

We didn't need him. Not sure why Newcastle thought sending him to a club overloaded with centre midfielders was a good move for trying to get him game time.  They must have realised that at a minimum Ferguson and Brown would be nailed on starters.

The fact that Longstaff is not up to standard is just an extra kick in the balls.

Wasn’t he supposed to be Ferguson’s replacement but he didn’t leave and now Aberdeen are stuck with a player not as good as Ferguson and also Ferguson
