Trump is absolutely an idiot, and I wouldn't want him in charge of a corner shop, but I listened to that interview and he was being sarcastic when he said Peace Force.

Pretty much every leader in the West: UK, Germany, USA, has enabled this by the response to 2014.

You can't really blame the West for the independent actions of Vladimir Putin.

They might want to take heed of the chain of events perpetrated by another dictator in the 1930s, though, and how current events are imitating them.

6 F-35s and 10,000 redeployed soldiers isn't much of a counterforce.

He’s over stretched himself, the Russian public dinna want it. I think he’s fucked. This will end with his assassination.

Fair shout.

The russian people will see theyve nothing to gain from this shit other than it decimating their economy and killing a lot of their own people.

Hopefully it means Scotland get a by into the next round in the World Cup qualifier.

Totally agree that Putin's responsible.

But Putin knows Lenin's maxim about bayonets: Push, and if you find mush keep pushing, if you find steel withdraw. He's found a lot of mush in the past.

Are innocent lives being taken though? Despite all the bluster from the bbc, has any civilian area been attacked?

Just saw footage of a Russian jet launch an unguided rocket into a neighbourhood... guy was filming out his window, and the rocket appeared to hit within a few yards.

From what I'm seeing, despite months of warnings, Ukraine seems bizarrely underprepared.

I think it was last year, the president boy said, if they invade we will open the armories for the citizens to defend themselves

Thats about it

Sounds like Russian paratroops took the airport outside Kiev. Why wasn't a strategic location like that heavily guarded?

Most of the combat-ready Ukrainian units are situated in the East, risking being cut off and surrounded.

Appears that a lot of Ukrainian armor and aircraft were caught parked on their bases, rather than dispersed and camo'ed.

These Ukrainian cunts don't sound like they're even trying to defend themselves.

Sounds like they’ve been taking defensive advice from Stephen Glass ?

Seems the Ukrainians may have just taken the airport back.

It's weird watching a way play out in real time on Twitter.

You’re up to speed with these things, keltoid, can the media really call it a war? Has war been declared? Does it need to be to be a war?

Why do the media keep saying there’s fierce fighting reportedly happening but no footage? Surely someone has a phone

We speak every day here about not trusting the MSM, why are we accepting what they’re saying now as gospel?

im not fishing or anything, I just can’t trust unverified reports from establishment media which has a clear agenda

Relistically, Russia aren’t going to fire rockets across Europe to Britain, why should we be any more invested in this than say an African dispute? The media need a new bogeyman now that the covid monster has been exhausted

The initial stages of a modern war don't involve masses of soldiers shooting at each other, so the notion of capturing footage of lines of infantry in combat is largely outdated.  The preamble to the ground attack is gaining the air above the battlefield, which is why you're primarily seeing missiles, jets, and helos taking down air defence infrastructure.

That seems to be going pretty quickly, so land forces will kick on shortly if they haven't already.

It's a war inasmuch as two countries are trying to kill each other, but it's a fight in the same way it would be a 'fight' if you stuck Judi Dench in a ring with Mike Tyson.

The good thing is that Ukraine seems a bit shit at war, so it'll all be over pretty quickly. The longer it drags on the greater the chance of a NATO thing getting blown up, deliberately or accidentally, and then shit will get real.

My current thoughts are it's going to be a quick victory for the Russians, a cheeky wee Pro-Moscow regime change, and a low level insurgency, seems like the likely outcome here.
