So on a chromosomal level you can't change your gender, but on an aesthetic level you can

So you're both right.

The bottom line is fuck who you want, and sport shouldn't be segregated. Make men, women, adults, kids, gays, straights, Jews, blacks, whites, and the handicapped all compete in the same competition... and if you can't compete at a winning level then at least you'll get a prize for taking part.

That's that one solved.

What's next on the list o shit to argue about?

I don't think anyone has suggested you can change a persons sex once it's been set

My only assertion is that humans are complicated and your sex doesn't necessarily relate to your gender.

I read this a few years back and fished it out

https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/voices/stop-using-phony-science-to-justify-transphobia/

Interesting, I thought.

That was an interesting read.

Very complicated issue imo and I bet the ruling bodies (iaaf etc) wish that semenya was someone else’s problem.

From her pov she has been a “female” all her life and has done nothing wrong in entering and winning women’s races.

From her competitors pov they will have a very strong case to be completely aggrieved that they have lost out on medals because a man was winning their races.

I didn’t agree with all the points raised as eg allowing everyone else to legally dope sounds a bit ropey !

But, it certainly highlighted the complexities and I can’t see any solution being satisfactory to both sides.

Problem with the addition of trans races is that are there enough of them of elite ability to make this a worthwhile exercise?

That headline suggests the nhs fast tracked him as opposed to weirdos on Internet forums.

Don’t you have to do about a years worth of counselling? Can’t even get the snip as a young man without doing nhs counselling.

What benefit would the nhs get from fast tracking cosmetic surgery? He likely took up a critical care bed for 5 days, the nhs won’t be encouraging that. Misleading headline and strange place to point the finger, considering his lifelong poor decision making/ mental health

You can't actively change it no, but according to the articles posted chromosomes don't = expected sex at all times.

I just think folk should live and let live, does no use to be derogatory to trans folks. Just alienates an already alienated subset of society further, and it's unfair.

They deserve as much respect and dignity as the next person, regardless of what you feel about their own gender identity. It's basic politeness to refer to people as they'd like/even attempt to understand them.

Anyway.

I certainly won't be getting dragged into this again.

3 Tories desperate to keep their seats- Labour appeasing them.

What a sorry state UK politics is in.

Hardly a discernible difference between Tory/Labour right now.

Labour is basically rudderless, without a platform, and closer to the political Right than Left, and the Tories are opportunistic kleptocrats/oligarchs with a Far Right inclination.

Look at the list of 'specialists' involved in this process!  Spunking away your NI contributions pandering to people that are clearly just a bit confused and depressed. The NHS is a shambles.

That's one example of someone who feels they've made a mistake.

Hundreds of not thousands of other examples of people who are delighted with what they've been able to do. That's not to say this kind of thing can't happen.

Very foolish to assume one negative, and actually really sad and unfortunate story, is generally the truth with what goes on.

I met a trans woman at a party a few years ago, and was curious, started asking questions, she was really nice, explained the whole process etc, it's no fucking cakewalk.

Most people are doing it on a whim, normally, you are extensively screened, checked, vetted, before they even let you take hormones, let alone get any surgery.

So, your NI contributions, at large, aren't getting "spunked away" when it comes to things like this. Quite often it's helping someone live a much better quality of life than they did before.

What I'd also say on this is that he has every right to sue.

He was clearly depressed because of his homosexuality and I agree, specialists should've picked that up.

The money could be better spent on other things, things that actually save lives and reduce physical suffering. Ambulance call out times, waiting times for life saving surgery etc. could all be reduced if  resources weren't directed towards the army of psychologists etc. that deal with this stuff.

There is no army of psychologists, mental health services are chronically underfunded. The costs of this will be significantly less than the expenses the nhs experiences from smoking and drinking/ antisocial behaviour.

A lot of darkies and gypsies use nhs services too without having ‘paid into it’ for years. Does that annoy you? Bet it duz

That's daft thinking.

It would be entirely possible for everyone to get what they wanted if our political parties valued the NHS more.

The reason waiting times are down etc isn't because they are employing psychologists for these issues FFS 😂

Also, mental health should be supported by the NHS, IMO. Just as important as physical health.

The fact both are chronically underfunded is a political issue, that they tell you is an economic one. It's purely ideological. They always find money down the back of the sofa when they need it.

The duty from tobacco and alcohol more than covers NHS spending on treating the  health issues they cause.

This will come as a bit of a disappointment to you @Matt Armstrong's Dog

Jordan McSweeney, now I could be wrong (I have been in the past!) but not sure this bloke will be "brown" as you like to say.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-61925686

Just had a look at the lad (who I think it is going by his age and where he lived at the time (Dagenham) when recently on his page) on his Facebook profile.

https://m.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100058727825478

He's a white alright. No doubt, if indeed he is put on trial and subsequently convicted, he'll be deemed to be a person "failed by the system and others" and was experiencing a combination of a psychotic episode and an absence or abnormality of mind at the time of the attack but had no intention of killing the victim.

His photographic quotes on FB may form the impression of an unstable mind, although that's just pure shite, used wrongfully in mitigation, in my book. A murderer knows what they are doing, regardless of their mental state, "poor upbringing", "feeling socially excluded", etc. End of.

He'll be admitted to Broadmoor Hospital indefinitely under the provisions of the Mental Health Act of 1983.

However, I can foresee the media depicting him, whether it be fairly or unfairly, as a white supremacist and misogynist, who is a member of The National Front or similar organisation.
