The Goodwin effect!

Recommended Posts

For a number of years now, the issue of trying to get players to sign for us is a much bigger issue than trying to identify them.

I don't think we can blame Gunn or Goodwin or Mowbray for that, as it doesn't matter how good they are at their jobs they cant just force our targets to sign for us.

And It doesn't matter who is the manager or who is the director of football trying to sell people on a move to Aberdeen is a struggle these days. Even when we are offering more money than others, most players whether that be in Scotland or England or the continent are just are not keen on moving up here.

The only option is to make offers they cant refuse financially but then that leaves a sticky situation if players are earning more than they are worth and so lose the hunger to put the same effort in.

Good post , min. And with Hearts getting the benefit of increased income from Europe and their higher league placing , there must be a fair chance that we're no longer able to outbid or even match the wages/packages they can offer.

If our identified targets are consistently not signing though it means we're identifying the wrong targets in the first place.

No it doesn’t. It means that the ones trying to convince them to sign are failing to do a decent job.

Perfectly easy to identify the wrong targets & get them signed (if they are shite) Glass showed a remarkable ability to do this

Ultimately no matter how hard you you try to sign a player they normally they have choices and other clubs chasing a decent player

If you get a player signed now that's great

Some agents will coming knocking at the door when they find they cannot find a club for there client that's the ones we don't want

Must be frustrating for any manager when you cannot bring inthe ones you really want and have to settle for somebody you really didn't want

Hence get infirst otherwise you bring in dross players

Nobody wants that

With the amount of players clubs are allowed to loan out ‘reducing’ it will have ‘some’ affect on clubs squads. They will be a lil more inclined to release some ‘surplus’ players rather than pay full wages on a player they likely won’t ever play.

Knock on effect will be more players/Agents looking for some kind of permanent contracts/security. Would hope so at least. May be some players/agents taking a gamble & holding off, or they do not fear the prospect of not finding a club yet.

Could be a lil advantageous to us this window in our slow start to signings as potentially a better quality may come available when they realise they cannot get the wages/club they believe they can

Bojan Miovski a target for us.

Pretty decent player.

Would be a good signing surely.

Looks as if he has some decent teams trying to sign him. Be surprised if we can get him over the line but defiantly looks an exciting player. Certainly looks the better option when you compare him to the Norwegian lad.

Based on my limited knowledge on him, I'm chuffed we're in for the lad. Fingers crossed we get him signed up, another poster reckons we're in advanced talks..fuck knows if that's true though. Same agent as Ramadami
