Let's not beat around the bush, that's as bad a result as Kazakhstan away. Ireland have been dog shit for about 2 years and we made them look like a half decent team. Yet they couldn't play out a simple goal kick...which most amateur teams are capable of. 

We have a good pool of players, but we need someone else to be getting us wired for big games and playing beyond the containment that Clarke asks for

Clarke's made us better than we were under McLeish during his second spell, but we're no better than we were under Strachan. Arguably worse, though i'd agree Clarke's working with better players.

He flatters to deceive to a degree in that he had the Nations League route to a major competition, an option not available to previous managers. Take that away and assess Clarke's time as Scotland manager based purely on the Euro & World Cup qualifiers and he doesn't look so good.

Think he's in for a rough ride. I'd already noticed a negative shift in the attitude of the Scottish sports media toward him. That was before a quite shocking performance and result against a team who couldn't bag a goal, let alone a win, prior to facing Scotland.

The qualifiers for the World Cup was as good a performance as we have seen for a couple decades to be fair. But when it came to the crucial game against Ukraine it completely by passed us. Much like at the euros when the game we had the best chance of winning, the Czechs, completely by passed us too. 
 

im not sure what to think. The national team are better than they were but that’s mostly due to more players breaking through and doing well for themselves - not the manager doing anything.

At 1-0 we could have maybe got back into it, by the time the second went in the Scots were second to everything. After the third the ref could have just blown the final whistle, because that was as good as it was getting for us. The disparity in will was glaring. 

Pish though the Irish are, they were willing to work to dig out a result.

I wouldn’t replace Clarke with McInnes, only way I’d change it is if Moyes becomes available
